Yeti Quest Festival & Run
Dates: 8–10 May 2026 | Location: Sakten & Merak, Eastern Bhutan
Event Overview
The Yeti Quest Festival & Run is more than a sporting event — it is a cultural odyssey into the heart of Bhutan’s highlands. Rooted in the traditions of the Brokpa nomads of Sakten and Merak, this first edition brings together endurance, spirituality, and folklore in a three‑day celebration.
For centuries, the Brokpa people have lived in harmony with the rugged alpine landscape, their lives shaped by yak‑herding, weaving, and oral traditions. Among their stories is the enduring legend of the migoi — the mysterious yeti said to roam the high passes and forests. This festival honors both the living culture of the Brokpa and the timeless myth that continues to inspire awe.
Guests and runners are welcomed with blessing ceremonies, ritual dances, and cultural showcases that reveal the depth of nomadic life. The Yeti Run itself is a journey across sacred trails, with race categories designed to reflect the endurance of the yak, the spirit of the nomads, and the harmony of the highlands. Beyond the race, participants join in weaving demonstrations, yak‑herding displays, communal feasts, and bonfire storytelling where elders retell legends of the migoi.
The festival culminates in a day of deeper immersion — guided walks through Brokpa hamlets, workshops on traditional foods and costumes, and music concerts under the stars. It is a rare opportunity to experience Bhutan’s living heritage, where myth and culture remain inseparable.
